Rated 3 out of 5 by mia2413 from loved my old salt keeper... I just went to purchase this for a gift as my brother always comments on how much he loves my olivewood salt keeper, bought many years ago with Williams Sonoma. I was excited to see the price had dropped, until i actually held the product and realized it was different. The older one is beautifully made with no visible wood seems, smooth wood, a lovely olive wood grain and a medium brown finish. The newer one is a slightly different design and just has a rough feeling to it. there are visible seems where the wood is joined and it is a lighter shade. I am sure if i had never seen the older version, i would be very happy with this. I seem to remember that my older version cost about $20 more so maybe its a case of you get what you pay for.Date published: 2018-08-31Rated 5 out of 5 by MSCoachsWife from Based on old design? I absolutely love my salt keeper and have had a few years. Last night it slipped out of my hand and the lid shattered on the tile. Okay, shattered is an exaggeration but there is a large chunk broken off. I was going to trash it but set it aside just in case. I was going to order a new one but after reading reviews I’ll see if gorilla glue can fix the broken piece first. WHY would you change a good design? I don’t think the brand is hurting for money so would think a satisfied customer is better than the extra revenue.Date published: 2018-07-09Rated 1 out of 5 by BobW from Not the same quality anymore, Do Not Buy! The ones from the past were substantial and are awesome. I just ordered three for gifts and the new design and quality is awful. They trimmed too much wood off the bottom and now the keeper falls over because it is unbalanced and too light when you open the lid. DO NOT BUY these until they work out the problem with the manufacturer. They came in individual white William and Sonoma square boxes. Not Italian.Date published: 2018-02-07Rated 5 out of 5 by Justin from Beautiful & functional item to adorn your kitchen I love this beautifully crafted Olivewood Salt Keeper from Williams-Sonoma. The craftsmanship is impeccable as it is made by the leading producer of culinary tools in France: Berard (est 1892). They utilize the finest Mediterranean olivewood which is then handcrafted by skilled artisans who are able to polish and highlight the wood’s elegant grain. The flat circular top swings outward to reveal the hollow inside where finishing salt can be stowed. A magnet helps secure the top upon swinging closed again. The movement is fluid and seamless, making it easy to grab a quick pinch of salt to sprinkle on top of your favorite dishes. I love the rich honey-brown hue of the olivewood as it pairs beautifully with my marble accessories, offering a warm contrast amongst a sea of white.Date published: 2018-01-24
