- Oven and broiler safe to 500°F; phenolic-resin knob is oven safe to 375°F.
- Use wood, plastic or heat-resistant nylon tools to avoid scratching the enamel surface.
- Do not slide pan on stovetop.
- Enamel can chip or crack if dropped or banged on hard surface.
- Allow to cool before washing.
- Dishwasher safe.
- Avoid using steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents or abrasive cleansers.
- Stubborn food residue and stains can be removed with a nylon scrubbing pad or sponge.

The first Le Creuset foundry opened in 1925 in Fresnoy-le-Grand, France, and specialized in cast-iron cookware. The cast-iron pieces are still made at the original factory, using the traditional techniques of hand forging and casting in individual sand molds. The brightly pigmented porcelain-enamel glaze that first set Le Creuset cookware apart from other cast-iron cookware now comes in a wide range of traditional and contemporary colors. In 2013, Le Creuset began producing innovative stainless-steel cookware in Portugal with lids that incorporate the same signature three-ring design as the company's classic cast-iron pieces. This stainless-steel collection was awarded the prestigious 2014 Red Dot Award for product design.

And I have used it in the oven, on high heat on the stove for extended periods of time, and then right into the dishwasher. I have replaced literally everything else in my kitchen over the years except my dutch oven. My step-daughter just got engaged and we will be giving her her own Le Creuset dutch oven this Christmas. The interior finish is much smoother and this makes Le Creuset much more stick free and easy to clean than Lodge. The Dutch oven has a larger bottom surface area for better more even cooking. The lids are tighter, the finish is more refined, and the colors are beautiful. I could go on and on. Wish I hadn't spend the couple hundred dollars on Lodge in all and just invested in Le Creuset from the start. I purchased the 5&1/2 quart round Dutch oven in white, the braiser in matte blue. I love the WS selection and their exclusive colors. Yes, they can be pricey- wait for a sale. But, they are indispensable in the kitchen for serious cooks! Why? Because, properly used, they do what other cookware can't. With tremendous heat retention and capacity, they braise any meats, vegetables, or starches, and can make gratins and bread! They do have a service lifetime, often decades, but they are worth it. The key is to brown meats or sautee food at low to medium heat on the stovetop. Let the pot heat up for a while at that temperature and use plenty of fat. Brown in batches so as not to simply steam food. Also, let cool before cleaning, and you will not get the fine cracks in the enamel that occur with overheating and rapid cooling. WS is a playground for me and I can be very self-indulgent, but everything is of superior quality. Remember, most Le Creuset items can be multi purposed for more than their advertised use, so do some research and choose wisely. As noted by many reviewers, it is also a very attractive way to present food on the table, especially for large sittings. I may return it, but I had to tear the box apart to get it out (after re-boxing it; my husband wanted to see it) so not sure. I like the grey, and I like it with the red. I also like the size. I love using all of my Le Creuset pans and have one for each of my cooking needs. This one will be used for Risotto, and I have also used it for mashed potatoes. It is so nice that I even use it to serve from right on the table when placed on a trivet. This pan is the first I have purchased with a matt finish and I am very pleased with the new look of it in Anchor Gray. It goes well with the rest of my kitchen décor and meets all of my cooking needs. I like the cast iron dependability for even heat distribution and the easy interior glaze that is easy to keep clean with the use of Bon Ami when needed. Is the bottom of the Dutch oven completely flat, ridged or some other texture? I’ve got a glass cooktop and am concerned about scratching or marring the surface.Hi Jill K - This dutch oven is ideal to use on any cooktop.
