Use & Care


  • Ideal for use on any cooktop, including induction.
  • Before first use, remove all packaging and labels.
  • Wash the pan in hot, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Cast-iron handles, stainless-steel knobs and phenolic knobs will become hot during stovetop and oven use. Always use a dry, thick cloth or oven mitts when lifting.
  • Always place a hot pan on a wooden board, trivet or Le Creuset silicone mat, never on an unprotected surface.
  • Heat-resistant to 500°F.


  • Always cool a hot pan for a few minutes before washing.
  • Do not plunge a hot pan into cold water. While Le Creuset's enamel is designed to be the most durable on the market, thermal shock may still occur, resulting in cracking or loss of enamel.
  • If there are food residues, fill the pan with warm water and let soak for 15–20 minutes before washing. A brush can be useful for removing small food deposits, or for cleaning between the ribs on grills. Do not use scourers or abrasive cleaners on the cooking surface. Nylon or soft abrasive pads or brushes can be used to remove stubborn residues. To avoid damaging the enamel, do not use metallic pads or harsh abrasive cleaning agents. Light stains or metal marks caused by metal tools can be removed with Le Creuset cookware cleaner.
  • Never store pans while they are still damp. Store pans in a dry cupboard or airy space away from steam.
  • Maintain the tightness of all handles and knobs by checking and retightening them regularly.
  • Dishwasher use: All pans with integral cast iron, phenolic handles or stainless-steel knobs can be washed in the dishwasher. However, constant dishwashing may lead to some dulling of the enamel finish. This is not harmful and will not impair performance. When using the dishwasher, always allow the cycle to finish before opening the door. This will ensure the pans are dried thoroughly.

  • Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for French Sauces These enameled cast-iron pans and pots are designed for old-school French cooking, where the recipes might call for a single cooking piece to go from stovetop to oven, back to the stovetop, then under the broiler. As I've been on a French cooking kick, I've prioritized replacing some of my normal stainless or nonstick pans with these. This was second on my priority list, after the 2.5 qt braiser, which is so versatile that I could use it for its intended use and also double it up as a fry pan, but that meant shuffling food in and out of the pan. So I got this primarily for sauces, at which it excels. So far I haven't found a classic French sauce that this pan doesn't handle with aplomb. It's also great for sauteeing, for frying eggs, and for other lower-heat skillet uses. I've used it for some higher-heat frying and it's actually okay for that too, though I do intend to eventually get a purpose-built (black-enamel) pan for those uses. Note that this pan is quite small - much smaller than a standard 10" frying pan. It's a great size for sauces, omelettes, or crepes, but if you want to wilt vegetables you'll be at it for a while. If I were routinely cooking for four or more people I'd probably want the next size up before this one, but since I generally cook for three this is the perfect size for my primary uses. People have already commented, but I'll just echo that this is a fine piece of French-made cookware. It's very easy to hand clean with low-abrasive cleaning methods. It might be okay in a dishwasher but why dull the finish? Certainly never, ever touch it with a steel scrubber or other high-abrasive cleaners. In my Le Creuset French oven I've baked in four hours' worth of meat and sauce juices, only to have them wipe right out with a short soak in soapy hot water and a wipe with a towel.

I own the two versions of LeCreuset's black interior skillets and they're wonderful for high heat searing but wanted something for brunches and egg dishes. This skillet with the sand color interior is rare and is not even on LeCreuset's website. I could not be happier with the results! One reviewer commented that they used a stainless scrubber puff? You can't do that! This is enamel both inside and out and those scrubbers will scratch it up! That's why their pan looks so bad. Use only BarKeeper's Friend or dishwashing liquid!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lasts generations I have pans ranging from 1940 to today all are fantastic with no equal. Easy to clean. You can scorch them if your stove top or oven racks aren’t clean. Some will take on a tone change over decades of use. Don’t use metal utensils, use the rubber to keep,lids from chiping the pots when not use. I’ve had stuff handed down from my great aunt who used them in her diner in the 40’s-50’s and I still use them nearly daily for the last 30 yrs. this one is perfect for omelettes and sautéing.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent results but not for all types of frying I've only had this fry pan for a week and already had some nice results. It takes getting used to after years of Teflon but I'm confident if you use it properly with the foods suitable for this pan, the results will be excellent. I cooked bacon, eggs, potstickers and crepes with this pan with great results. The trick with all is to get it heated up before you add the food and to avoid turning the food too soon. I did that with the pot stickers and it the skin stuck to the pan. When I waited for a nice crisp coating it was fine. My husband used the pan like the old non-stick and his eggs stuck to it. Our crepes were perfect and my 9 year old daughter made a batch of 20 in this pan! She even remarked that she loved the pan! I didn't have good results with fried fish or my pork chops. Because the instructions said you should keep to a low to medium heat, my pork chops did not sear and my fried fish took forever too cook. I transferred the pork chops to my Woll non-stick pan and the sear was lovely and crisp. I'm moving away from non-stick for health reason. After the nice results with this shallow fry pan, I'm going to order the black enamel 12 inch skillet from Le Creuset for high heat frying. Its pricey but its of excellent quality. Its an excellent item to remind us to be mindful of our cooking and in taking care of our things. We live in a buy and toss society, and should move back to qualify products which last a lifetime while encouraging us to get back to basics with our cooking and diet. The pan is beautiful and cleans up very nicely. I'm pretty sure it will look like new even after years of use. Overall, this is a really nice pan and a great alternative for someone moving away from non-stick Teflon for health reasons. I only wish it was an inch bigger. I would recommend this pain.

Although scrambled eggs are still a bit tricky (I haven't yet figured out the proper temperature:oil ratio), I could flip a fried egg over in the air if I were so inclined. This pan is excellent for reheating a slice of pizza, grilling sausages, preparing a small stir fry, wilting greens, sauteeing shallots, and cooking croquettes, which crisp up beautifully. The Ocean color is soothing, and cleanup is easy. One night I grilled hamburgers, and the inside of the pan looked a fright. A gentle soak followed by a buff with a plastic scrubbie, and the interior sparkled like new. If Williams-Sonoma offered a larger size (12+ inches), I would buy it in a heartbeat. This pan is perfect for one or two people. I use it nearly every day.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Bridal Pan The Le Creuset I collect is french grey, but I bought this in white with wedding gift certs to remind me of when I was a young bride learning how to cook. I am so glad I got the white pan! After the first use, it had a brown stain on the bottom for a few months but came off with BarKeepers and Mr. Eraser. It looks brand new! Perfect size for cooking eggs. Quick clean up thanks to the enamel. I no longer use the stainless steel pan I got as a gift. This is my new go-to pan for smaller items. I wish Le Creuset made this in a 13 in. I would buy in a heartbeat. I would buy this all over again. Even in the white!

    Do the handles get hot when cooking?

    Yes. I just use a towel or a pot holder. It depends on what I’m cooking and how long the heat has had to transfer from the skillet to the handle but yes usually they do get warm.

    Is there a Le Creuset glass lid that will work with this pan?
