- More about Le Creuset
The first Le Creuset foundry opened in 1925 in Fresnoy-le-Grand, France, and specialized in cast-iron cookware. The cast-iron pieces are still made at the original factory, using the traditional techniques of hand forging and casting in individual sand molds. The brightly pigmented porcelain-enamel glaze that first set Le Creuset cookware apart from other cast-iron cookware now comes in a wide range of traditional and contemporary colors. In 2013, Le Creuset began producing innovative stainless-steel cookware in Portugal with lids that incorporate the same signature three-ring design as the company’s classic cast-iron pieces. This stainless-steel collection was awarded the prestigious 2014 Red Dot Award for product design.
Rated 1 out of 5 by amc123 from Don't Buy These - They Crack I purchased the largest size dish a year ago. It cracked in the oven slightly, but it wasn't bad enough to affect use so I continued to use it. Eventually the crack worsened, so I took it back to the store this spring. They replaced it no questions asked. My replacement dish cracked in the oven during the very first use. I'm very disappointed in the quality for the price on these dishes.Date published: 2018-06-23Rated 1 out of 5 by lee999 from pretty but very poor quality so pretty and easy to clean! but after using it less than a dozen times it was cracked all the way through. took it out of the oven and there was the crack -- what terrible quality! i had thought any le crueset product would last a lifetime with proper care. i have pyrex dishes i've used for 20 years that are still in perfect condition and cost very little compared to le crueset. really disappointing!Date published: 2018-06-04Rated 1 out of 5 by jinx56 from Terrible Quality I have purchase many Le Creuset products over the years and have always been happy with them. I bought two of these gratin dishes and both have cracked the first time I used them. There is something wrong with how they are made. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE DISHES.Date published: 2017-12-03Rated 1 out of 5 by CTShopper from Cracked in my oven the second time I used it! Bought this, along with another large baker, a couple of months ago, but only used it one other time before tonight. I was cooking a pork roast at 350 degrees, when I heard a big "pop" from my oven. The baker had broken in half, ruining my roast dinner. I have used smaller pieces of le Creuset and have never had this problem. I am requesting a refund and a return of the other large covered baker, as I cannot trust this product line. Thank goodness I wasn't using this baker for a dinner for guests! Now I am very disappointed in the quality and reliability of this line and will not buy any other pieces.Date published: 2017-04-06Rated 1 out of 5 by Chrismama from Oval Baker I bought this baker about a year ago. I have several dutch oven products - dutch oven, covered casserole dishes, etc. - probably a dozen pieces. I decided to bake salmon @ 450. I wrapped it in aluminum foil and after 10 minutes in the oven, the baker literally cracked in halfDate published: 2017-03-19Rated 1 out of 5 by Michelle from Questionable Quality I received this piece about year ago as a gift. I was very happy with it until it broke in half after only a year of use. This is after very careful use, cleaning, and storage. I never dropped it or damaged it in any way. I have no explanation for how or why it broke after only a year.Date published: 2017-03-16Rated 5 out of 5 by Pamela8 from Love it! I received the 9 1/2" dish as a wedding gift and am so glad I did. When I first removed it from the packaging, it was smaller than I anticipated. However, as I began making dishes with it, it ended up being the perfect size for my needs. It will typically fit a side dish made for 2-4 people. I also love that the dish is pretty enough to go from the oven to the table for serving. What was also unexpected was the ease of cleaning it! I made a super cheesy gooey dish the first time I used it and anticipated an overnight soak to get it clean. Much to my surprise, it was so easy to clean with soap and water...no hard scrubbing necessary! Overall, it is a great piece to add to your kitchen.Date published: 2017-02-23Rated 2 out of 5 by NoVAMomm from Ridiculously small The Williams-Sonoma description says the 9 1/2" Le Creuset Oval Gratin is 11 3/4" x 7 1/4" x 2 1/4" high overall. What they don't share is that the sides are sloped and the actual bottom measurement of this dish is 8" x 5". It's TINY. Williams-Sonoma lists this as 9 1/2" but the Le Creuset calls it 1-quart / 1-2 servings, which is a much better way to go in my opinion. Williams-Sonoma, please add quart sizes to your descriptions! If you can use a dish that only holds 1-quart, this is a beautiful one. And W-S customer service was excellent in taking this back.Date published: 2015-11-20
