Rated 5 out of 5 by Mrunner from Best used with a ice cream cookbook! I bought the machine this week as I love ice cream and received some ice cream cookbooks. It worked great on my kitchen aid artisan mixer. I also have a mini and it did not fit althought someone in the store said it would. both my cookbooks recommend this is the a second best to the cuisart machine. The reason some prefer this machine took cuisart as it is lighter ice cream. Reading a ton about ice cream lately I've learned it's very scientific. I read some bad reviews and wonder if it's the recipies as oppose to he machine. Invest in a good book such as Jeni's or the art and science of the scoop if you want to really give ice cream a try!Date published: 2017-07-10Rated 5 out of 5 by meemaws from Who wants icecream! Love, love, love it! I've researched icecream makers, styles, prices for awhile. The sale price and free shipping is what cemented my decision. Also my love for Kitchen Aid!!!Date published: 2017-01-17Rated 1 out of 5 by Carolburn from Don't bother! I bought this ice cream maker , stored it in the original box with Styrofoam for protection, only took it out a couple of times. Put it in a very cold freezer for a few days , made ice cream only a couple of times. It still sprang a small leak. Never will I buy this maker. Kitchen aid would not take it back. Very disappointed with product and Kitchen aid.Date published: 2017-01-15Rated 4 out of 5 by PRaphael from Works well, but your freezer has to be COLD A lot of reviewers say that this doesn't work. They need a freezer thermometer. Before buying this, check your freezer. Ideally, the freezer ahould be -5°F or colder. 0° is OK. +5°F is pushing it. If you can turn the temp lower, do so and check again in 24 hours. If you can't get the temp below 5°F, don't consider this product (or any other freezer bowl machine). You either need a new freezer or a compressor-driven ice cream maker. This attachment works best with 1 qt or less mix. If your freezer is cold, and you're using a good recipe, you can freeze the ice cream in 15 minutes. This is very good for a home machine. You have to spend a LOT to do better. Fast freezing is important for texture, not because I'm impatient. It could be better. Professional machines have metal dashers that use spring tension to scrape the sides of the canister. This uses plastic that fits quite imprecisely. The ice cream quality would be improved if KA made a better dasher.Date published: 2017-01-14Rated 1 out of 5 by erictigger from Didn't make ice cream Bought this for a Christmas present and put the bowl in freezer for 4 days. Made basic vanilla recipe and chilled in fridge. Attaching to machine was easy as I'd expect from KitchenAid but even with frozen bowl and chilled mix, it hadn't frozen being mild slush stage in 45 minutes of stirring. Freezer was on coldest setting in a bottom freezer drawer fridge and mix cooled. Hoped the 1 star reviews were bowls not frozen, etc. Our old crank unit with ice and salt worked better. Heck, two ziplock bags with mix in inner bag and ice and salt in outer bag works better. Also, you either have to plan days ahead for ice cream or take up freezer space with an empty bowl.Date published: 2017-01-03Rated 3 out of 5 by NancyML from Is this an older model? Would I recommend? Yes, I would recommend, with reservations. When you get it installed correctly, this ice cream attachment works well. It's tough to get the drive mechanism centered exactly on the motor head and requires constant monitoring so the drive mechanism doesn't slip off the dasher. The drive mechanism delivered is not the one that KitchenAid currently shows on their webside, so I'm not certain what we received from Williams-Sonoma is the latest, greatest version. The beefier drive mechanism is pictured above on the 4th photo, on the dark green mixer. What I received is a far less substantial mechanism (as shown on the 1st, 3rd & 5th photos) than the KitchenAid site describes. The instruction book I received is dated 8/2013. The leaks described by many owners haven't appeared yet. However, I always let the unit thaw completely (usually overnight, sitting on a kitchen towel) before hand washing, drying, and replacing in the freezer. Fingers crossed, it will live a long, healthy life.Date published: 2016-09-15Rated 5 out of 5 by lreale from Effective and Easy to Use I've had great success with this product. It works every time and seems to work faster than some of the ice cream makers my friends have. Make sure to set your freezer to the coldest setting and do not use until it doesn't slush around inside anymore.Date published: 2016-08-16Rated 1 out of 5 by Zoannegayle from Ice cream doesn't freeze I keep the bowl in my deep freezer and the ice cream does not set! I even put the milk mixture in the freezer before pouring it into the bowl, and it still doesn't set. I do not want overly soft ice cream that i need to use a straw to ingest. Very disappointedDate published: 2016-03-27
