Rated 5 out of 5 by Cynthia from Solid coffee taste Having previously owned a stovetop siphon coffee maker, I really appreciate this electric model. From what I’ve read, the main complaint is the cloth filter - however I have found a better alternative. Simply buy paper coffee filters and adjust them as needed. Just make sure to cut a hole in the filter, put it on, wet it and mold it to the plastic filter (see pics). This way it’s easier to take it off and toss. Because the vacuum is sealed well, I don’t have complaints with the retention of heat - as I have with my drip coffee makers. However, while it’s a few steps more laborious than your automatic coffee makers, the prize is a cup of clean yet solid coffee.Date published: 2019-04-17Rated 3 out of 5 by A Curtis from After two years of use... After two years of use, I’ve had great tasting coffee. My only issues with the coffee maker are the design makes the user completely disassemble upon every use for cleaning and the plastic handle has failed. The plastic adhesive simply fatigued and failed after two years of daily use. The pot was cleaned only by hand and carefully so. I’m in the market for a new coffee maker and won’t be buying another one.Date published: 2019-02-22Rated 5 out of 5 by paula from Great customer service!!!! Bought this coffee maker twice from Amazon, both times got wrong product. I decided to pay $10 more from Williams Sonoma and got the right product but handle was cracked, they allowed me to use and sent replacement on the honor system to return to store. Who does that! Anywhoo, there is a learning curve on getting the ratio of beans and the grind of coffee right to filtered water right. Once you hit it. AMAZING!!! As far as clean up, I don't have an issue, my hand fits in upper and lower pots, if I'm lazy I use a bottle brush to clean. 10 stars to Williams Sonoma for customer service and 5 stars to this coffee maker.Date published: 2018-10-28Rated 1 out of 5 by nina from is this really a coffemaker? I just bought this coffee maker looking for a simple "coffee maker" not anything that dances and makes foams and talks to you and takes your dogs out for a walk too!! Just a coffee maker. I "tried" to make my first cup and boy was I disappointed! If you are want a semi looking french press that looks more like a muddy water with occasional coffee grinds that isn't even hot, this might be the one! I am very disappointed that Kitchenaid has put its name on this. There is no filter system and the cloth filter is a joke. Other negative points: the glass part of water reservoir connection to the plastic siphon tube isn't sealed completely, therefore water and some grind will get underneath it which there is no way you can clean it. The brew key automatically turns off and although this is supposed to be thermal, the warm coffee to begin with doesn't stay "warm". The plastic brew unit stand that you have to put the water reservoir in it is another joke and can easily be tipped over and break the water reservoir/brew unit. The carafe is heavy and not easy at all to clean. I couldn't even slid my hand inside the carafe to clean it and lets' not forget that you have to be very careful not to wet the underneath the carafe. The whole thing is just weird. The unit will be returned as soon as possible.Date published: 2017-11-05Rated 5 out of 5 by Coffeecat from Outstanding machine This is the only home brewed coffee I can drink and I own a whole slew of high end coffee makers and the Hario Chemex one cup solutions. This coffee is delicious and HOT, like I remember the percolators from my childhood. Plus it's fun to watch brew. No there is no warmer so the first cup is the best but all a warmer would do is bake your coffee. To me all brewed coffee tastes bad after twenty minutes. I just brew smaller amounts and brew again. If I want the third or fourth cups hotter I just turn on the switch for ten to fifteen second to goose the temperature, then turn off. Cleaning takes more time but if you are a coffee lover you just get used to it and don't even think about it. Sometimes I mix the wet grounds into the soil of my azaleas and roses, they are acid lovers. I would not hesitate to purchase this product . Hats of to the millennials at Kitchen Aid who were smart enough to reinvent what grandma usedDate published: 2017-04-22Rated 4 out of 5 by Airedale from Learning Curve Makes a great cup of coffee but there were several disasters on the first couple of uses. If everything isn't tightly in place, the coffee grounds end up in the coffee. The cloth filter does not work no matter how tightly it is secured. The water rises up and so does the filter. Don't really know what purpose it serves. Difficult to clean.Date published: 2016-05-10Rated 5 out of 5 by Smitty305 from Cleanest Cup of Coffee Ever This is, by far, my favorite way to make coffee. It is rich, flavorful, and extraordinarily clean. It has the full body of French Press but much cleaner....zero bitterness. I will not make non-espresso coffees any other way. Accessories I use are a grinder (medium course grind) and a scale. Machine recommends 74gms of coffee for a full pot , but I have found 90gms to be the magic number. I know there have been some negative reviews on cleaning, but I find it to be pretty much a breeze: bang the filter against the side of the garbage can getting rid of much of the grounds; rinse the filter in the sink; using the high pressure sprayer on your sink, spray out remainder of grounds from the upper glass chamber and voila! The pot requires a simple rinse. I cannot recommend enough buying this product. Kenyan is my favorite to brew in it!Date published: 2016-02-03Rated 1 out of 5 by bgwillow from Disappointed Can't believe KitchenAid put their name on this. Compared to other reviews I must not understand what constitutes great coffee. My results are consistently an okay brew that is muddy looking because the filtering mechanism is severely lacking. The cloth filters provided are a complete joke and the screen without them doesn't do the job. Carafe is heavy and difficult to clean because the heating mechanism is integrated into the bottom of the carafe. I could probably tolerate the inconvenience of getting the grounds out of the brewer after using it if there was a decent effective filtration system.Date published: 2016-01-25
