Rated 4 out of 5 by CloudNineCook from Beer Brewer's Find! Mash in brewers. I am a home brewer and wanted to purchase a mill for my grains. Any mill is pricey but I have a KitchenAid and saw that they had a mill available so I thought I'd try it. You just want to crack the grain, not turn it into flour so use it at your largest setting. I purchased a bag to mash in from a local brew store and put all the grains in the bag. It does produce some flour so I feel if you put that grain in your mashtun, it may clog the drainage of the wort. Not sure though. I placed the bag of grain directly in the boil kettle and tried to keep the temperature at 154 to 156 to mash in. The beer was successfully brewed and projected OG and FG accomplished. I liked the mill. Did shut it off to cool as recommended precaution. Easy to clean. Slow but sure.Date published: 2017-02-11Rated 4 out of 5 by MarkB from Solid Product but one limitation. This is a well made product that will last for years. My main gripe is it won't do tipo-00 fine grind. Even at the finest setting the flour is still fairly coarse. The burrs are not easily replaceable and I could not find them on the Kitchenaid parts store. The manual says you are limited to 10 cups of flour before you have to take a break and let the motor cool down. I doubt that's an issue with the DC motor Pro-Line and commercial mixers though. As long as you don't need a really fine grind, then I would recommend this attachment.Date published: 2015-11-13Rated 3 out of 5 by wyobethy from Not for me. I was excited about having a non hand cranked grinder, however the finest grain setting on the grinder still produces a rather chunky flour. I hate to sift my flour because I don't want to remove any of the nutritional value of it, including the bran. I just wish it would do a finer grind. I will be looking to sell both my kitchen aid and grinder in exchange for a nutmill grinder since bosch recommends it and I already have a bosch mixer. Also a side note the attachment is hard to remove after use because it gets hot and expands.Date published: 2013-10-30Rated 4 out of 5 by JessicaND from Not Too Shabby The grain mill was one of the first KitchenAid attachments I bought. Even on the finest setting, the flour is going to have a little texture to it, so if you're expecting it to produce flour with the texture of white flour, you will be disappointed. However, the more times you run the flour through the mill, the finer it gets. My biggest "beef" with this mill is that it's messy. I recommend placing wide bowl as close to the end of mill as you can to minimize the mess. Some other things that people might find annoying are that the mill is extremely loud--as in REALLY loud, and it is slow. But if you are willing to put the grain in the mill and walk away and come back a few minutes later, this shouldn't be an issue. Overall, this is something I'm very happy with because it does the job and takes up minimal cabinet space in my kitchen.Date published: 2013-01-09Rated 2 out of 5 by AllieH from So disappointed I've wanted a grain mill for some time but felt guilty asking for such an expensive present for my birthday/Xmas. When I discovered that Kitchenaid had a grain mill attachment, I was so excited! I could finally get my grain mill for the fraction of the cost. I ordered this and anxiously awaited it's arrival. When I finally had the chance to use this for the first time, I found that even on the finest grind setting, the grind of the flour was so coarse that texture of the bread was unpalatable to my children. It did the job, seems very well designed, and is a very sturdy attachment but my expectations were not met wrt the fineness of the grind. I will be returning this item.Date published: 2012-09-09
