Today while making cookies with my four year old, the glass bowl shattered while mixing the butter. My butter was quite hard, but I didn’t think anything like this could happen. Nobody got hurt, but my son got scared and started crying. I wanted the glass bowl for the aesthetics, but I think I will switch to the metal bowls now.Date published: 2019-06-28Rated 5 out of 5 by BK19 from Exactly what I needed I've had a great first two weeks run with the mixer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]Date published: 2019-06-25Rated 5 out of 5 by AliJanx from The Same, but Different I bought the KitchenAid Artisan Design Series 5 a few weeks ago because I was ready for a new, updated KitchenAid Mixer, in a color better-suited for my kitchen. I went with the Artisan Design Series 5 because it seemed to be a bit smaller than my old Artisan, without losing any power, and I'm not a power-baker in need of a 6-quart. The Artisan seems quieter too, but that may be my rose-colored-glasses at work. The lever slides toward me to lock, which will take getting used to, but that certainly isn't a deal-breaker. The glass bowl is wider than my old stainless and I really like being able to see the contents + the measurements on the side of the bowl. I've not tried any of the stand mixer attachments, still deciding what I want to do first. I have loved my KitchenAid Mixer for years and years because it can handle anything I toss its way and this newer one doesn't disappoint. I have one cookie recipe that puts the motor to the test every time I make it, but the mixer stays tough. I didn't necessarily need a new mixer, but was in a position to buy a new one which I'd been wanting for 3-4 years. Really nice way to treat myself! The Artisan 5-quart is a bit pricey, but it'll last a long time. Could be you'll buy a new one more for the color than for the need! It’s ok, but I don’t like that the attachments don’t fit the bowl and there is the need to use a spatula over and over to achieve proper mixing. I also don’t like the way the glass bowl is not easy to get in and out of the stand. I have a Pro-Line KitchenAid Mixer that I love, except for how heavy it is to lift and I have to have someone do it for me. The Artisan will never be able to compete with my other mixer. Sorry, I would have traded it in for another Professional but didn’t want to hurt my husband’s feelings! It is really pretty, candy apple red! Kneading was so much easier and mixing batters was hands off unlike using a hand beater. I can get other things done while the machine works.
