- Instructions for Instant Pot Carnitas Starter Sauce
4 lb. (2 kg) boneless pork shoulder, cut into 2-inch (5-cm) cubes
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1 Tbs. vegetable oil
1 jar carnitas starter
Season the pork with salt and pepper. In an Instant Pot® set to Sauté, warm the oil. In batches, sear the pork, turning occasionally, until browned all over, about 8 minutes per batch. Return all the pork to the pot and stir in the carnitas starter. Lock the lid in place, seal and set to cook at high pressure for 45 minutes. When pressure cooking is complete, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then quick release the remaining steam. Carefully remove the lid and, using tongs, transfer the pork to a bowl. Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-size pieces. Using a large spoon, skim the fat from the top of the sauce. Stir the pork into the sauce and serve.
Serves 6 to 8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cyambert from This sauce is fantastic! The Instant Pot Carnitas Starter Sauce tastes great- my family loved the carnitas that this sauce made. I put some shredded white cheese, cilantro, slice of lime, and sour cream on the side and they were so good! My family agrees, they were truly restaurant quality.Date published: 2019-09-10Rated 5 out of 5 by sporty from Family loved it! I finally got around to making this in my Instant Pot. It turned out really good! My two boys don't like spicy and they loved it. My husband said that it tastes just like carnitas in a restaurant. I used 5 lb. boneless pork shoulder and there seemed to be enough sauce. I generously seasoned before browning, and used garlic salt too. Pressure cooked for 60 minutes. Will buy again!Date published: 2019-09-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Neno from Yum!! For being in a glass jar and poured over some browned pork peices. Great job! We're a Hispanic family and make most of our food home made. But when we needed a shortcut. This was a wonderful replacement. My only knock against it would be the lack of heat to the spice. But that can easily be added.Date published: 2019-08-17Rated 4 out of 5 by Chris7100 from Quick&Easy w/ a little help from kitchen staples Made carnitas in the Instant Pot last night using this starter. The trick is that it really is a "starter". I added a bit of OJ, a squeeze of lime juice, some jarred chopped garlic and store-bought chopped onions, all of which took about 5 minutes. I'd also had my butcher trim and chop the pork into bite-sized pieces ahead of time. I skipped the initial browning and just threw everything into the IP for 30minutes on high then 10minutes of natural pressure release. Finally, I fished the pork out and sautéed it AFTER it finished in the IP to add texture and a bit of caramelization - again maybe 5 minutes on the stove. Wonderful!Date published: 2019-02-02Rated 5 out of 5 by Doris from Delicious and easy I used a ~4 lb bone-in pork shoulder even though the recipe called fore boneless. It was very easy to prepare and my family loved it! The pork was very tender, had great flavor and was not spicy. I did end up with ~ 2.5 cups of sauce, which is a lot in my opinion. Maybe next time I might try using just half the jar. Very easy! Just add your favorite toppings and a pitcher of margaritas for a great meal after working all day.Date published: 2018-11-11Rated 2 out of 5 by frevin from Quick, easy, but no flavor. This was an easy sell — we bought it and looked forward to quick yummy carnitas in InstantPot...but the flavor was almost bland it was so mild. My slow-cooker recipe is so much better than this, unfortunately. Was easy to prepare though, so if you’re not picky about good flavor and just want mild, tender pork for tacos or burritos, then this will do. But for the price (and for something sold by WS), this isn’t worth a try. You can do better on your own recipe or an alternate recipe online.Date published: 2018-09-09Rated 5 out of 5 by TXFOODIE from Delicious Carnitas in under an hour! Took me awhile to get around to trying my instant pot- but this sauce made it super easy! Tender, juicy carnitas in less than an hour- so good that my kids requested leftovers for breakfast and lunch the next day!Date published: 2018-08-16
Under instructions, it says for the instant pot max, go to williams-sonoma. com/instantpot. Well, here I am, and it says NOTHING about how to use these with the MAX. Feel like I'm going in circles. Shouldn't have to waste money guessing how to use theseHi TerryB, You can find Instant Pot Max recipes here: https://www.williams-sonoma.com/pages/recipe/instant-pot-max-recipes/Date published: 2019-05-10
