Rated 1 out of 5 by kvankala from the WORST grinders ever Both the pepper and salt grinders constantly stop working, I have given up after the second replacement. Fortunately, the local WS store was nice enough to replace the first set after I owned for less than a year, but when the replacements broke down after a few month, I threw in the towel. Go for the Peugeot.... much better quality and lasts.Date published: 2017-12-31Rated 1 out of 5 by jimbo21 from Poor value for money The shakers look great in the product photo but cheap when examined closely. Plus they come wrapped in sticky labels that are impossible to remove cleanly and leave a sticky residue behind. Batteries were difficult to insert and to complete my disappointment they dispense from the top. Just not very good.Date published: 2017-12-27Rated 1 out of 5 by Unhappy from Absolutely horrible These go through six batteries each like warm butter. They are a pain to refill and the salt corrodes the center post so that, over time, it becomes almost impossible to separate the battery pack from the salt reservoir. We had one salt mill replaced because of that. The second one has now reached that point. The pepper mill clogs easily and grinds unevenly. They finally went into the trash today when salt ended up all over the counter and floor when we attempted to refill the mill and the battery pack would no longer mesh with the reservoir. A total waste of money. Stay with the manual mills.Date published: 2017-11-19Rated 5 out of 5 by CCJM from Love this Peppermill I don't understand the negative reviews on this product. I purchased my first peppermill about 4 years ago. It is still working. Loved it so much I purchased a second one for white pepper. Never used the salt mill so I can't vouch for that. So convenient to use while cooking since you only need one hand. Only thing I can guess is perhaps the quality of the newer ones is not the same.Date published: 2017-10-26Rated 4 out of 5 by Ballet Mom from Three years, still good, a few issues After 2 years the plastic 'stubs' that lock into the base cracked and one broke off. So it doesn't lock tightly when I replace batteries or pepper. The grinder speed became slow, then eventually stopped. I replaced the batteries and that didn't help. So I put it away and used store-bought ground pepper (eww). Got so frustrated with that, I took out the mill and put in new batteries. And it worked like a charm. So maybe it needed a vacation, who knows. The grinder speed isn't as good as I'd like, but it still works, after three years.Date published: 2017-09-15Rated 1 out of 5 by Mike from Poor quality! A great product, but will not last. I loved the mills (at first) and bought a set for many in my family. The salt mill will eventually corrode, and you will not be able to get it apart to refill. The pepper mill motor speed has slowed to the point I cannot use. OK/fun item if only use is on the table. If used with periodic exposure to cooking, and occasional steam.......find another product. With all of the negative reviews, one must wonder why a great store like WS continues to carry this product??Date published: 2017-08-29Rated 1 out of 5 by nolagam from Faulty product Received a pair a few years ago from my daughter. Thought they were great. Good looking and easy to use. NOT easy to refill, but I managed. Then after several months one stopped working - yes, with new batteries. It was replaced. Since then I'm careful not to use over something cooking on the stove as I was told the steam would ruin them. I'm on my third pair and the salt stopped working. I could not open it. Took it to the store, and was told they'd call me back as the young man couldn't open it either. No call. My daughter picked it up, and they said it couldn't be opened, and there was nothing they could do. I've always used the WS pepper corns and their salt. Yes, you'll love these for a while, but there's a defect and they won't last. I use the pepper one, and it's fine.Date published: 2017-08-10Rated 2 out of 5 by Mike from Why it doesn't last long I bought these mills less than a year ago and have figured out why the salt mill doesn't last long. There will always be humidity in your home and that, in combination with the salt, over a period of time, will corrode whatever it comes in contact with. The metal stem that fits in the gear, which turns the grinder, will deteriorate over time and not keep a secure fit. As a result, the grinder works harder to try and work and, in my case, the side of the black piece, which holds the batteries, actually melted. The salt somehow gets inside the gears and wires and works its melting magic. I like the convenience and looks of these mills, but it's up to you on whether or not you want to spend this kind of money on something that won't last long....be prepared to annually have to buy a new salt mill....by the way, the pepper mill is fine.Date published: 2017-07-29
