Named not after the country but an American named Sam German who created Baker's Chocolate, German chocolate cake first gained popularity in 1957 when a recipe for it was published in the Dallas Morning Star. Handcrafted by the father-and-son team behind Frost Bake Shop in Memphis, the generously sized dessert starts with three layers of the family's signature dark chocolate cake – moist and tender, with rich cocoa flavor. A lightly sweetened coconut and pecan frosting, prepared with plenty of fresh butter and condensed milk lend authentic flavor and a pleasing texture to this rich and satisfying confection.
- 9" diam., 4" high (serves 16–20).

- Use & Care
- The cake ships frozen with dry ice, which may have evaporated during shipment. This is normal. Please take care not to touch any remaining dry ice with bare hands. Upon receipt, remove the cake from the bakery box and store in the freezer for up to 3 months, or defrost in the refrigerator overnight and keep for up to 7 days.
- The cake is best enjoyed at ambient temperature. Remove the plastic from the cake while it is still frozen. Defrost in the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed, allow the cake to come to room temperature, approximately 4 hours before serving. To serve, run a large knife under hot water and dry with a towel before every slice. Store leftover cake in an airtight container, where it will keep up to 3 days refrigerated.
- Cake (sugar, buttermilk, soybean oil, flour, eggs, water, unsweetened cocoa, salt, baking powder, vanilla extract, cornstarch, baking soda, coffee), frosting (Nestlé Carnation evaporated milk [vitamin D added], sugar, butter, coconut, pecans, egg yolk, vanilla extract, salt).

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pilgrimbaker from Scrumptious! I received this cake yesterday. It’s HUGE! Defrosted it in the fridge overnight, then set it on the counter for a few hours to bring to room temp. This is probably the most delicious cake I’ve ever had! It is so moist and chocolatey, it melts in your mouth and the frosting is to die for. I cut it in half, cardboard on the bottom too, wrapped it in plastic wrap and froze it for another time.Date published: 2018-05-25Rated 5 out of 5 by cookingcarly from Wow, words cannot do this cake justice. This cake is so delicious and so moist. The cake is so amazing that I could eat it without the frosting, it is really that moist and has so much flavor. It just melts in your mouth. I didn't think the pink flower frosting cake could be beat but the German Chocolate Layer Cake is number 1 in my book. I would like to have one in my freezer at all time to give to friends who stop by. Isn't it good to know where you can get an amazing cake for special occasions and just every day.Date published: 2017-11-11
