Our beehive is an exclusive design created for us by one of the world’s premier beekeeping suppliers. - High-quality assembled wooden frames have a Rite-Cell® foundation coated in 100% beeswax.
- Each box is designed to be lighter in weight than those used in professional hives, making them ideal for a home garden hivery.
- Wood construction is hand stained for weather protection.
- Peaked roof is copper-colored anodized aluminum attached to gable ends.
- Hive’s bottom board sits atop a cedar stand, keeping it off damp ground.
- Boxes and frames are crafted on custom-built equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Davey from Ideal for a beginning hobbies. bee happy is not correct! Speaking as an experienced backyard beekeeper 8 frame mediums are often recommended for the hobbits beekeeper and all the major suppliers carry 8 frame mediums.Date published: 2018-08-18Rated 5 out of 5 by HoneyGirlGrows from EXPERIENCED BEEK - GREAT HIVE FOR ANYONE This was my FIRST beehive ever, and I still have it and it's in excellent condition years later. It's made of the highest-quality wood. This is an excellent hive for a new beekeeper and anyone concerned about their back. It is lighter and easier to lift. These boxes are called, "mediums" and weigh up to 60lbs each when filled with honey or bee babies and bees and wax. Normal beehive frames are twice as deep and are 10-frame and a box can weigh 100lbs. This is why this design is smart. It's also brilliant because you'll never need a different size of frames between your boxes – it simplifies everything. You WILL need to purchase more supers (boxes). These are "8-frame mediums." Depending on your climate and location you will most likely begin your hive in Spring. If so, you will need to purchase your new boxes by mid-to end of spring or early summer – soon after getting your bees. You can order more frames and the boxes from beehive equipment suppliers including Mann Lake. You will have to stain them to match. You will want wood without any knots – equal to the quality of this hive. My only criticism of this gorgeous hive is that the roof fades from copper color within a year, and then the plastic seal begins to peel off. Don't peel it - it only looks worse. *Do NOT buy a beehive without first joining your local bee club association or mentoring with a local beekeeper for a year. Keeping bees alive is NOT easy. You will need to know how and when to do what. I killed my first two hives from ignorance and most new beekeepers do the same. **IF you have gentle feral bees (not Africanized), you need not purchase bees – you can attract a feral swarm by putting a few drops of lemon grass on the landing board (never put essential oils or anything in the hive other than beeswax). Good luck with your beekeeping adventure. Important things to know before committing to a hive: 1) You cannot count on getting a drop of honey - it's the bees food and if you take it, they may not survive. You really have to know what you're doing 2) in winter you'll need a BIG freezer to store your empty wax frames (you cannot store them in plastic bags with mothballs on the outside - or you will have mothball toxins (which are cancerous) in the wax that your bees and honey go into.Date published: 2017-09-24Rated 1 out of 5 by Bee Happy from Pretty but impractical The hives are beautiful. If you're looking for a nice yard decoration, they're lovely. We were new to beekeeping and quickly discovered several significant problems: (1) the bottoms are solid wood; in the last few years since these hives were built, it's become standard to use mesh bottoms (with removable solid insert) to help address mites and keep hives cleaner and cooler; (2) they are smaller than standard boxes which is nice that they're lighter weight but it also means you can't purchase additional layers or other accessories at any beekeeping vendor; nothing else fits; (3) I don't mind going directly to the original the manufacturer but sadly they're out of business so you can't purchase additional supplies/accessories anywhere; huge problem for long-term maintenance!Date published: 2017-06-29Rated 5 out of 5 by OrangeSky from Practical and Handsome Beehive This beehive is very well built and looks wonderful. It is also designed well making it easier to raise bees. It looks excellent in our garden and about 20K bees call it "home." Highly recommend this item!Date published: 2013-06-09
