Braised Lamb Shanks Recipe

Put the onion, celery, carrots, garlic, stock, tomatoes, tomato paste, thyme and bay leaf in a slow cooker and stir to combine.

Season the lamb shanks with salt and pepper. In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil until nearly smoking. Add the shanks and brown on all sides, about 5 minutes total. Transfer to the slow cooker.

Remove the sauté pan from the heat, pour in the wine and return to medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring to scrape up any browned bits from the pan bottom. Add the wine to the slow cooker, cover and cook on high for 6 hours according to the manufacturers instructions. Transfer the lamb shanks to a large serving dish.

Remove the bay leaf from the cooking liquid. Using a blender or stick blender, puree the liquids and solids until smooth. Pour some of the sauce over the shanks and pass the rest alongside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I too am surprised by the bad reviews I own two other 6 qt slow cookers but decided to splurge on this one. I've only used twice but am thrilled with the browning feature and the super easy clean up. My first meal was braised lamb shanks - it held 6 giant lamb shanks with all the carrots, broth, wine, onions, garlic and so on! My second meal is b/sk chicken thighs with andouille sausage, tomatoes, etc. and I cannot begin to tell you how shocked I was at how well the chicken browned. I used over 5 pounds of chicken and about 2 pounds of sausage. Unlike other reviews, my lamb shank recipe called for cooking on high for 6 hours and I found them more than done and perfect after four hours - I only wish I had thought about browning the shanks in the slow cooker - didn't even think about it! At any rate, should anything change or if the slow cooker stops performing as it has, I will certainly update my review. Finally, it is beautiful!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not so good Very pretty, makes a great counter top ornament but lacks in quantity. It only Browns and cooks on one side of the cooker so you mite as well just brown your meat I a separate skillet, it will be much faster. I’m really disappointed in it for the ridiculous price they charge for it. I really expected better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Insert gets scoured easily This slow cooker is beautiful but the insert got scoured easily just after a few uses. I used it mainly for rice steaming and meat browning. I used wooden or silicon tools, but the surface still got damaged. For product at this price, I would expect to see a more solid quality. Once the inner bottom of the insert is damaged, the metal coating can end up in my food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm in love with my all-clad... I received my all-clad for Christmas from my mom. I regularly cook dinner for 20+ ppl and with 3 kids I usually end up using a crockpot to save me time, but because none of my crockpots were very large I usually end up using 2 or 3 to have enough food. My mom thought that was just crazy so she got me this giant one so I would only have to use one. Which I love. So much less mess and super easy to clean! I've used it many many times in the last month. Soups, stews, casseroles, roasts, pretty much everything goes in the all-clad. The browning feature is amazing. I used to skip that part in the directions because I didn't what to dirty extra dishes. Browns amazingly well. Steamed broccoli one of the first nights using it, was delicious! And tonight I'm testing out the rice cooking feature which I'm super excited about. Really can't say anything bad about this slow cooker and am surprised at the bad reviews which is why I decided to leave my own. I love my all-clad and I'm telling all my friends about it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't cook on slow I bought this a few years ago and use it on occasion. Loved everything about it until it started shutting itself off on slow cooking. My friend who bought one around the same time also has the same problem now. AND when I look through the Internet, so do A LOT of people. Yet, All-Clad is not doing anything about it. Poor quality for sure. My cheap one that I replaced at the time was 12+ years old.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sorry to have to rate this... Regrettably, I have to write this review. I received my slow cooker a few weeks before Christmas and used it for the first time to prepare a pork loin recipe for the Christmas. The recipe called for low cooking and I set the cooker on "low". After many hours of cooking (based on the recipe), it was not really ready and I had to cook it on a "high" setting get it ready in time for the holiday meal. I was disappointed to say the least. I used it only for the second time yesterday to make soup. While washing it up, I noticed that several small bubbles are beginning to form in the nonstick coating on the bottom. So many purchasers have noted this too in their reviews. I believe it will only worsen as I, or if I continue to use it. I really had high hopes for this slow cooker, but it appears other purchasers and reviewers were spot on in their write-ups. I saved the box and packing because I had a feeling that I would not have too much of a different opinion from others. As I stated, I was hoping that my cooker would prove their reviews to be wrong, but it didn't happen. So their you have it. I seldom write reviews, but wanted to state my honest opinion, even though I would preferred for it to be different. I am giving 3 stars because it did at least work, but not at the capacity and the quality that I hoped for and was expecting. I use only cooks' tools that are recommended for nonstick cookware
