Rated 1 out of 5 by Northward from New model flawed Williams Sonoma replaced this kettle a year ago because the plastic housing under the handle cracked and warped and the kettle couldn't be used. The replacement has developed the exact same problem. I've been careful to keep an adequate amount of water in it, and not let it boil dry. But it doesn't seem to matter. The original electric Breville kettle was great and lasted me a long time. These are faulty, in my experience. I have been disappointed in Breville's products for some time now, in spite of my early infatuation with them. I am leaning toward Oxo for the style and quality in small kitchen appliances now.Date published: 2017-04-10Rated 4 out of 5 by georgicapond from Excellent tea kettle I have bought four of these kettles over the years, 2 for each home, and love them. It's true that there is a limited life span of about 3 years per kettle (with much everyday use), but at the sale price of under $80 I think it's worth it. Water heats quickly and pours beautifully. It looks great on the counter and takes up minimal space. I live in an area with hard water so the inside gets mineral deposits constantly. Heating the kettle with vinegar cleans them out very well. Other than the short life span, I think it's a terrific piece of equipment and recommend it highly.Date published: 2016-11-04Rated 2 out of 5 by MartiMD from developed electrical short within three years I purchased this expecting to get at least five years out of it, since there are many cheaper kettles available and I've had several that lasted that long with moderate (not daily) use. This one shorted out after three years, with the electrical leads not connecting with the base to turn on light and start heating. The limited warranty was only for a year. No more Breville for me.Date published: 2016-08-25Rated 3 out of 5 by SHB11 from Good, but . . . I've had this kettle for about eighteen months, and it has done what it is supposed to do - boil water. A few days ago it stopped working, the warrantee is up, and Breville has not responded to my attempt to communicate. My previous kettle lasted for six years. I will replace this kettle tomorrow, but will not buy another Breville kettle. If you are happy with a kettle that doesn't last for even two years this is a good choice.Date published: 2016-07-10Rated 5 out of 5 by OlgaBe from Works great and lasts forever Was surprised to see this model for sale since it's the same as what my husband gave me almost 10 years ago. It is the most used appliance in my kitchen, boiling water at least 5 times a day. Works like new. If you are a black tea drinker, it's the best kettle out there. I also use it to boil water for pasta, dumplings and blanching cause it gets to temperature faster than the same volume of water on the stove. If you are into lower-temperature brewing teas, a more sophisticated model that holds set temperature is probably a better choice.Date published: 2016-02-28Rated 5 out of 5 by NSB53 from Very good water kettle I have owned this for more then 8 years. I use it daily and it hasn't missed a beat yet. Easier and faster than boiling on the stove. All you need to do is fill it up to the max level or whatever amount you need and turn it on. It shuts off by itself and you can hear it shut off. You should also empty out the water every day when you finish using it. No need to clean the inside, just rinse with water. Every now and then clean with vinegar. That's it. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. Use it right!!!!!!Date published: 2015-06-14Rated 2 out of 5 by PalmDesert from Attractive but Have owned this tea kettle for 9 months and have used it probably 30 times. We have hard water and to delay mineral build up, I try to drain the kettle thoroughly, but the weight of the kettle on the lid may be too much. The tea kettle's attached lid also makes it difficult to scrub its interior. If you have hard water, a kettle with a removable lid may be better, and I am looking for a new one now.Date published: 2014-07-24Rated 3 out of 5 by snobird from Heats fast, but..... This Breville water kettle brings water to a boil fast but lacks an alert that water is ready to pour plus, once boil temperature is reached, it automatically shuts off. The result is that, by the time you realize water is ready, kettle has cooled sufficiently that it needs to be reheated. I find this very frustrating. A better designed kettle is the pricier Breville which has several temperature selections and also keeps the water warm at that temperature until you pour.Date published: 2014-06-14
