Rated 1 out of 5 by karen from Doesn't work I bought this for my mother for Mother's Day and it basically doesn't work!. The dasher and the adapter for the mixing rod don't fit together well at all. The whole thing freezes up immediately when I pore the custard into the bowl.Date published: 2018-07-18Rated 3 out of 5 by MrsProck from It WAS great... I was so very in love with this super-easy super-reliable ice cream maker. A recipe developer at heart, I tested so many iterations of recipes (more yolks, less cream... more cream less sugar? Infuse the cream, lemon basil ice cream?! Infuse the SUGAR with lavender, and use blackberries! Add blackberry coulis and drizzle in bittersweet chocolate??) I could write a cookbook. This mixer and I had many late nights, each of which I will forever cherish. Unfortunately, today, this beautiful sunny spring day, I say goodbye to my dear friend. Upon moving her from her designated spot to the freezer in preparation for a new flavor, I noticed the dreaded puddle of blue liquid. “WHO spilled Gatorade on my favorite kitchenaid attachment?!” I thought naively, picturing the guilt stricken faces of my husband and two boys. “And why on EARTH were they drinking it on top of the refrigerator?!?” We would have to have a serious talk on not climbing on the appliances. Again. When it came time to remove my cherished friend from the freezer, shock! Another dreaded puddle of blue, this time settled in an unbaked pie shell for tonight’s quiche. For a fleeting moment, the Gatorade culprit flashed before my eyes before I realized no one who lives in my house can fit in the freezer. It’s an upright, after all. So, goodbye to my beloved companion, you will be missed. And to the lovely folks at KitchenAid, thank you for designing this life changing product. I will be looking for a replacement, I am hoping there is a newer version that has longevity.Date published: 2018-04-29Rated 1 out of 5 by chris21 from not good! After several uses it started leaking blue fluid, would not recommend!Date published: 2018-04-03Rated 3 out of 5 by Tawnytabby from Absolutely fantastic until it started leaking. We absolutely loved using this attachment to make a variety of homemade ice cream treats, so it was very disappointing that it started leaking it's blue blood all over our freezer and cabinet. We will need to purchase another one... but at this cost--and given that our problem does not seem to be unique--I think I will try a different ice cream maker unless I hear that KitchenAid has solved this problem. Sorry, KitchenAid, you heartbreaker, you!Date published: 2018-02-28Rated 1 out of 5 by MikeInMaryland from Leaked blue fluid after two uses. Received this as a wedding gift. After two uses, it started leaking blue liquid in the freezer as I froze it overnight in preparation for use. I've otherwise kept it stored in its original box with styrofoam padding. Extraordinarily disappointing.Date published: 2018-02-22Rated 1 out of 5 by Diana317 from Leaking blue liquid I got this as a birthday gift last year and didn't get a chance to use it until yesterday. Its been stored in its original packaging in the kitchen all this time, and after hand washing it, I noticed my drying rack had blue liquid all over it and it was leaking from the small knob! There are no cracks or anything, and it's never been dropped or mishandled. I'm so disappointed that I never even got to use it.Date published: 2018-02-07Rated 2 out of 5 by So sad from It worked great.....until the leak I’ve used mine several times with good results until it started leaking blue stuff. Now it sits in my garage and I’m screaming for ice cream.Date published: 2018-01-27Rated 5 out of 5 by Wesanator from Best tool ever Bought this for my wife for Xmas. She was so excited. She couldn't wait to see it work. So after some reading she tried simple vanilla from a recipe online. Well she got scared she didn't cook it long enough and ended up burning it a bit and after freezing the flavor was horrible. So read read read have alot of patients and follow directions on recipes. She has turned out some of the best freaking ice cream, since then, if adding ingredients freezer them before adding, freeze storage containers, cool the custard completely before freezing. Patients this is not quick but if you make a few bases they store for up to 4 days, then you can quickly make cream.Date published: 2018-01-13
Can I reuse the bowl to make another batch of ice cream? Or do I need to freeze the attachment again for 15 hours? It does need to be frozen again before making a second batch.Date published: 2013-10-22
We have tried the ice cream maker twice now and don't know what we are doing wrong. I comes out soupy both timesIf you are freezing the bowl for at least 15 hours prior to using it, then there are two possibilities here. The temperature in your freezer may not be low enought to properly freeze the bowl -- 3 degrees farenheit or colder -- or you may not be chilling your product sufficiently before pouring it into the ice cream mixer. I make an ice bath and stir the batter for 10 to 20 minutes until it is chilled. Then I place the batter, still in its ice bath, into the refrigerator and let it stand for 2 to 4 hours (recommended time on many recipes is 8 hours but, I never do this) Once it is sufficiently cooled -- 40 degress farenheit or colder -- I pour it into the frozen ice cream maker and let it run. In 15 to 20 minutes I have a perfect consistency for soft serve and I eat a little and put the rest into my freezer in a shallow, covered plastic storage container and in a couple hours it is the perfect firmness for sundaes, cones, shakes, and floats.Date published: 2013-10-22
Will this work on my older KA model #K45SS?We received this KA mixer as a wedding gift in 1981. I read the reviews here, and would like verification from the company that this item will work on it. The review about the drive assembly not working, and falling off causes me to need this verification before purchaseThis attachment works with all stand models wether they are tilt or lift models. It is designed so that the bowl works in one position for smaller mixers and another position for the larger models. Also the the drive assemply flips to accomodate all motor drives. It also comes with a ring that locks onto the bottom to accomodate all tilt models.Date published: 2013-10-22
Work with the new 7qt?Hi there - wondering if anyone has had experience using this with the new KitchenAid 7 qt. mixer? Would love to hear your thoughts (on this and any other 7 qt attachments) - thanks! When we were in the store in Annapolis we took one out of the box and fitted it to a mixer. It did fit the stand, so we bought it. When we got it home the drive assembly didn't quite fit. Thankfully Kitchen-Aid is being very helpful and will ship one once there off back-order (following an email question). In the mean-time it's sort-of been working, we've never really used it over "Stir" to reduce stress on the improperly fitted drive mechanism. Bottom line: It will work, but needs a different stir-er to function properly. Sounds like WS will carry those soon. If you have bought one and need it to fit, then emailing Kitchen-Aid Support should do the trick.Date published: 2013-10-22
