A magical forest of castles and animals enlivens our earthenware serving platters. Displaying this folkloric design from the 17th century, each hand-painted platter bears the touch of its artist and differs slightly in color and pattern. The heirloom-quality pieces are crafted at a small Portuguese pottery and destined to be the focal point of many an occasion. Small Platter, 19 1/4" x 13 1/2"; Large Platter, 23" x 15 1/2" diam. Hand wash. A Williams Sonoma exclusive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LucyAuri from Sloppy painting! Listen to the other Reviewers. I should have listened to the other reviews but my friend has this platter, from 5 years ago and hers is beautiful. Williams Sonoma needs to update the photos on the website to reflect the current product being sold. A hot mess. The birds heads are deformed, painting looks like it was done by a five year old child. The animals are painted solid colors with no lighter gradient. Scrollwork is patchy and uneven. A lot of the scroll work bleeds into other parts of the platter, so the yellow looks grey and muddied. The brown flowers look like a failed Pinterest attempt using cue tips. So disappointed in the lack of artistry of this product. Williams and Sonoma needs to fix this and scrap the poor quality stock. My friend has this platter from 5-6 years ago and hers looks wonderful, like the photo on the website. So sad, because I really thought I could overlook the poor paint job. Will be returning!Date published: 2018-06-22Rated 1 out of 5 by bessoncape from Deplorable Quality Decorative Painting If you are looking to add to an older collection of Provence ware the current line of Provence ceramics Williams Sonoma is selling is nowhere near the quality you might be expecting. if you bought these pieces years ago, you’ll know the painting quality was lovely. The pricing of the current pieces has fallen dramatically over the years and with it, the quality. Provence pieces are all about the painting, and the painting is no longer quaint but instead very crude, having the look of being sloppily mass produced by a child. It is possible to buy finely painted Provence ware but Williams Sonoma is unfortunately, no longer carrying it. My three attempts at buying a platter were all very disappointing and ended in three returns. I’d rather pay more and get a beautifully painted piece. I hope Williams Sonoma finds a new supplier for these once beautiful pieces - maybe more expensive but of higher quality.Date published: 2018-05-16Rated 5 out of 5 by Mary from Great Piece I love this platter and the round pasta bowl as well. I use them CONSTANTLY. They are very durable. MY ONLY COMPLAINT is that there are no more pieces to buy. I would love a round platter in this pattern!Date published: 2017-10-19Rated 5 out of 5 by SoriniLover from Beautiful platter Beautiful platter. Would definitely recommend and purchase again.Date published: 2016-12-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Xog3 from Provence platter Love this platter. I have been looking at it for the past few years and was finally able to purchase it. The pattern is so beautiful and unique - looks great on display.Date published: 2016-02-08Rated 5 out of 5 by BrendaW from Very attractive platter Have it on display in my kitchen. Love it and have received several compliments.Date published: 2015-06-02Rated 5 out of 5 by SarahRose1 from Elegant, Functional & Whimsical The reviews on this item surprise me. I purchased this platter a few years ago and absolutely love the weight, the quality and the fantasy of the artwork.....So much so that I purchased another for a dear friend who uses hers every Thanksgiving! This platter is lovely, fun and perfect for company. While hand painted artwork varies, that too is the beauty of any piece. Purchase and enjoy!Date published: 2015-01-23Rated 1 out of 5 by KayLeo from These used to be made in Italy! These are not the same serveware that Williams-Sonoma used to carry many years ago! It doesn't even make any sense that something called Provence would be made in Portugal because Provence is a region in south France, near the border of Italy, and Portugal doesn't touch France because there is an entire country in between them (Spain). The colors are still vivid and lovely, but the artistry and craftsmanship are clearly sub-par. The painting is sloppy and the glazing is uneven. My mother purchased the salt keeper from many, many years ago, and just by comparing the appearance of the platter and salt keeper side-by-side it is very apparent that the new versions are not made nearly as well as they used to. These used to cost nearly double of what they are being sold for now, but I would gladly pay the price for a better quality product!Date published: 2014-10-02
