“At my house, Father’s Day is about me expressing gratitude to my family for the love they show every single day,” says Bryant Terry, the chef, educator and author of Afro-Vegan renowned for his food activism as Chef-in-Residence at the Museum of the African Diaspora. “When I’m working on a new cookbook, I sometimes spend full weekends testing recipes and write for months on end, and my family supports me wholeheartedly.” Terry, who is currently working on a book called Vegetable Kingdom, out in 2020, designed a relaxed Father’s Day celebration featuring our affordable Open Kitchen collection.
Farmer & Author, Dishing Up the Dirt
Andrea Bemis is not afraid of a little dirt. In fact, as the farmer and co-owner of Tumbleweed Farm in Oregon, she embraces it. Whether it's working to create healthy soil on her farm, rinsing her dirt-caked boots after a day of harvesting, or posting a new recipe on her site, Dishing Up the Dirt, it's all a part of her love of cultivating fresh produceand transforming it into nourishing meals. "The farm is my office, but the kitchen is my happy place," says Andrea.
Living in the Pacific Northwest for more than a decade has been a huge influence in the way wellness blogger Alison Wu lives and eats. Her website, Wu Haus, is where Alison shares recipes, tips and inspirations that empower people to take control of their health through daily wellness practices. “I encourage healthy, balanced eating and the exploration of self-care, mindfulness and spiritual practice,” she says. Her daily prescriptions? Meditation, movement, three liters of water, and eight hours of sleep every night.
Eighteen-year-old Haile Thomas is the youngest Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach in the United States. Her interest in health began when she was ten years old, after discovering her father had type 2 diabetes. He reversed his condition with just healthy eating and lifestyle choices, and the experience inspired her to found her nonprofit HAPPY (Healthy Active Positive Purposeful Youth) to advocate for affordable plant-based nutrition in underserved communities and public schools.
Meet an Australian chef and cookbook author who really has his plate full: Dan Churchill is the Executive Chef at Charley St. Café in New York City, host of his Feast With Friends show – and he’s constantly creating recipes for his YouTube and Instagram followers. Dan also knows the importance of food, fitness and a healthy lifestyle. In addition to being an avid surfer who recently completed a marathon, he was the personal chef for skier Lindsey Vonn during the 2018 Olympics.
