Vanilla Old-Fashioned

Though it couldn’t be simpler to make, an old-fashioned is an elegant drink to kick off the evening, especially when it’s served on a single large cube of ice. Here we’ve swapped out the traditional Angostura bitters for vanilla bitters and garnished the drink with thin slices of pear to put an autumnal spin on it. If you like, you can omit the pear slices and garnish the drink with a vanilla bean instead.

Directions

In a double old-fashioned glass, combine the sugar cube, bitters and club soda. Using a muddler, crush the sugar cube until it is dissolved. Add the bourbon and 1 large ice cube to the glass and stir until well chilled. Garnish with the pear slices and serve immediately. Makes 1 drink.
