Sidecar

A bartender at Harry's New York Bar in Paris created this drink during World War I. The customer for whom it was invented reportedly drove into the bar on his motorbike, and the bartender gave him a sidecar to complement it.

Refrigerate the glass for about 1 hour. Pour 1 Tbs. of the triple sec onto a small plate or dish, invert the glass and twist the rim in the triple sec to moisten it. Then dip the rim in sugar to coat lightly. In a cocktail shaker two-thirds full of ice cubes, combine the brandy, the remaining 1 Tbs. triple sec and the lemon juice. Shake well and strain into the glass.
