- Use & Care
- Always use caution when handling sharp objects.
- Avoid cutting on hard surfaces such as stone, metal or glass.
- It is not advisable to use any knife but a meat cleaver to cut through bone, as other blades can be easily damaged.
- Hand-wash with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse and dry immediately.
- Maintain the knife's cutting edge by regularly using a honing steel.
- Sharpen as needed. With regular use and honing, you should not need to sharpen your knife more than once or twice a year.
- Sharpen knife at home using a whetstone or knife sharpener, or have it sharpened by a professional.
- Store knife in a safe place to protect its edge and prevent injury.

Knives are worth the extra money without question. Simply put, if it's too expensive to buy today, save your money and buy these knives when you do have the money. I chose to buy my knives individually instead of a block set, and these two were my first knives. I find them essential - the 8" Chef's Knife is great for a variety of tasks, while the 3 1/2" paring knife I find useful for small fruits and vegetables. My only recommendation would be to look into the 3 piece knife starter set, as I ended up buying the 6" utility knife later on, and could have saved myself some money buying that set initially instead. Yes, 40 plus years later and it is still the one knife that I use multiple times each day! Just love working with it - an essential for any beginner or seasoned cook!!!
