- Corn Chowder
In a sauté pan over medium heat, cook the bacon, stirring occasionally, until browned and crisp, 4 to 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to a slow cooker.
Pour off all but 1 Tbs. of the drippings from the pan. Add the onion to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the onion, milk, potatoes, corn and reserved corncobs to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Remove the corncobs and discard. Using a stick blender, puree the chowder directly in the slow cooker to the desired consistency. Alternatively, in a blender or food processor, puree the soup in batches until smooth. Stir in the chives. Season with salt and cayenne pepper. Serve immediately. Get the full corn chowder recipe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ggana357 from Great Blender I purchased this blender after much deliberation on whether or not to spend so much money on a blender...because after all it is just a blender with a $600 price tag. I can say that I am happy I purchased because the smoothies are much better than when using a ninja or a nutribullet. No matter what you place in the blender seems to be pulverized and you get a very nice and smooth smoothie. While I like the purchase and I will continue to use it I think the manufacturer definitely overcharges, but I guess if there is a market for it and people continue to buy it, its all about simple economics and supply and demand. I cant compare it with other vitamix blenders but I dont find it to be that quiet. I like the easy to clean feature.Date published: 2017-05-01Rated 5 out of 5 by AustinTexas from Auto programs! Bought both the vitamix and the kitchenaid pro-line blenders because i could not decide which one i wanted. The Austin stores do not carry the kitchenaid pro in store, she said i would have to order it online to see it. :-( I was actually hoping the pro-line would be amazing as i have the mixer, toaster, etc. all in candy apple red. Unfortunately, in the first 'water' blend test, the kitchenaid splattered water all over the place as it was leaking through the lid!! Sigh. Unfortunately that made my decision for me. BUT - I LOVE the vitamix. i had no idea how much i would love the auto program buttons. i have made a ton of smoothies, soup, frozen desert, etc. all of which came out amazing. all of which i used the dial for the pre-set program and they came out perfect. plus it's a breeze to clean. i was tempted by the bigger motor in the kitchenaid, the fact that it matched my other kitchenaid appliances, but i am so glad i went with the vitamix. i have no doubt kitchenaid will get there, but for now, they have several kinks to work out.Date published: 2017-04-24Rated 3 out of 5 by BlenderGirl from I Had "Issues" With My Vitamix 750 Series I bought my Vitamix 750 Series Blender after much consideration and research online. Unfortunately, I had problems with it right off the bat when I smelled the scent of "burning rubber" and it's bogging down and being unable to handle the ice I used in my frozen creations. I continued to struggle with the unit for about 3 months when I finally decided it wasn't for me and wasn't worth the expensive purchase price if it couldn't even handle ice. Everytime I used it to make a smoothie I had to remove the lid and see why the blades were bogging up and required the use of the tamper, although I'm not sure why. I've moved on to a much better product, KitchenAid Pro-Line and so happy I did! Sorry, from it's flimsy and inadequate compared to the KitchenAidmPro-Line Blender!Date published: 2017-04-04Rated 5 out of 5 by EuropeanCook from Awesome We have had our 750 for 4 years. We use it multiple times daily for smoothies and baby food and we LOVE it! Nothing out there even remotely compares!! Baby food makers are such a complete waste of money, I know because we went down that path first. The Vitamix is easy to use, easy to clean and makes large enough batches that we can fill multiple freezer trays at once cutting down significantly on time. If you're serious about making your own baby food you do not want a low capacity blender/maker that you have to endlessly use, wash and descale. We roast most of our baby food which is much, much tastier than all that steamed food anyway! We use the Start Fresh cookbook a lot and can blend any of those recipes for the baby and eat the rest ourselves, fantastic! Highly recommend! Of any store across the board WS is our favorite. Excellent customer service and fabulous products every single time!!Date published: 2017-03-15Rated 4 out of 5 by Brightbluesky1 from My second vita mix This is my second vita mix, my first one lasted strong for about 9 years till it started losing its high speed power. Didn't know I could have had it refurbished through Vita Mix company. This new Vita Mix 750 is beautiful to look at and it performs fantastic! It fits beautifully under cabinets and is lighter weight than the older versions. The short pitcher does need a bit more product/food to be able to blend well. Unlike the narrow skinnier pitcher- it works great with a cup or more. They both are great, I'm just nit picking because I've had both styles. Yes, buy it. I love the setting of pushing the button to wash and walking away, come back a minute later and it goes through the clean cycle Rinse, and air dry. ;) nice.Date published: 2017-01-04Rated 5 out of 5 by Ladyobyrne from Love this Blender This blender makes life so easy. I've put veggies, fruit, nuts thei it. It does everything! Plus it cleans itself which is my favorite feature. Makes my juicing diet a lot easier. If you love to cook, this blender is worth h every cent.Date published: 2016-05-03Rated 5 out of 5 by dbjw from best blender I gave this to my son as a gift. He has made some of the best soups in this blender! For a single adult with limited time, this is a great way to add healthy meals to your day.Date published: 2016-03-22Rated 5 out of 5 by RockyRocks from Love - love - love this blender Love- love- love it. I use it 1 - 3 times a week. Yes, it is priced a bit HIGH but THIS IS NOT JUST AN ORDINARY BLENDER. I make smoothies almost every other day. I put everything but the kitchen sink in my smoothies for example: fresh and/or frozen fruits, veggies, kale, carrots and beets, etc. My hummus (wow just right) in addition to many delicious soups. A group of my girlfriends like me make smoothies every other day some everyday we exchange and swap recipes. They purchased their blenders (another competitor). Two had to replace theirs within a year's time, one girlfriend is on her third blender. Biggest complaint-the motor is not strong enough my Vitamix running smoothly and working beautifully. Cleaning is a breeze looks beautiful. If you want a blender to work hard reward yourself with a Vitamix. My only regret why didn't I buy it sooner? I'm already saving my pennies to buy one for my daughter as a Xmas present. William-Sonoma thanks for having such a great product!Date published: 2016-03-17
