From renowned California baker Sam Godfrey, this version comes from an old family recipe and features three layers of fudgy devil's food cake alternating with fluffy white icing. It's ready whenever you are – just thaw, slice and serve.

- The cake ships frozen with dry ice. Please take care not to touch the dry ice with bare hands. Upon receipt, remove the cake from the shipping container. Place in the refrigerator to thaw and serve within 5 days; or keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- To serve, put the frozen cake in the refrigerator to thaw overnight. Approximately 2 hours prior to serving, take the cake out and immediately remove the wrapping. It’s best to do this while the icing is chilled, so the wrapping won’t peel it off. For optimum flavor, bring the cake to room temperature.
- When it’s time to cut the cake, run a large knife under hot water and dry it with a towel before slicing each piece.
