Old form takes on new function with these attractive planters, modeled after Victorian-era washing dollies from the French village of Vence, on the Côte d’Azur. Artisans emboss and bend galvanized sheet steel into these drum-shaped planters with fluted edges. Color and wax are then applied to add the appearance of natural aging.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CALIFORNIADREAMING from NOT WATERPROOF These planers make an extraordinary presence in the garden. They look like real antiques. However, they are not waterproof. They are spot welded on each pleat to the bottom plate. I put four inches of water in them to see if they were water tight and the water spilled out uniformly all around the top of the bottom plate. To divert the spill I drilled a two inch hole in the bottom, covered with a bit of screen. That will allow the tree roses that I planted in them to get a good soak. If you grab the planter by the inside lip a dark color comes off onto your fingers, however, that does not come off on the outside of the planter.Date published: 2016-01-19Rated 5 out of 5 by severlupe from Absolutely beautiful I'm not really sure the other reviewer understands the challenges posed with true antique galvanized planters. The williams-sonoma planters look amazing, are the right thickness so that you can add drainage holes if you're using outdoors, and there is no "blackness' rubbing off (I guess they could if you wiped them with carbolic acid...). They're light enough I've moved mine a couple times already as I monitor sunlight conditions, and now I'm totally thinking of buying another pair for my potager garden.Date published: 2015-06-14Rated 1 out of 5 by WESTVILLAGE from Thin Cheap Material These pots are so thin, light and cheap, if I were to put dirt in them they would collapse. When touching pots your hands become very black. Could easily get pillows, furniture, children very dirty.Date published: 2015-06-10
