These trays are perfect. They are very easy to use and can be run through the dishwasher. I use them for fruit juices and simple syrups for making cocktails as well as for regular ice cubes. The ice pops neatly out of the trays provided you don't overfill them. I empty these into my ice bin and dispense via the automatic dispenser on the front of my freezer. I highly recommend this solution for those who have grown tired of replacing their built-in ice makers every few months :)Date published: 2016-10-19Rated 1 out of 5 by PeteH from Poor design Pros: Good-looking, not plastic. Cons: Almost impossible to use, sends shattered ice everywhere. I don't mind putting a little effort into making ice, but this is ridiculous. If there's a trick to ejecting the ice in cube form I couldn't find it; instead, the ice shattered and went everywhere. This is the only item I've returned at Williams-Sonoma. I replaced it with silicone cube trays that are difficult to use but (a) not *impossible* to use and (b) produce cube-shaped ice. Disclaimer: I work at Williams-Sonoma, but am commenting as a consumer.Date published: 2015-12-19Rated 1 out of 5 by Shanny from Poor Quality and Design These ice trays are very difficult to use. I haven’t overused them, and I hand wash them. Nonetheless, the insert dividers are off their tracks. Resetting them is tricky, because I have to flip the insert over carefully so that a divider I just reset doesn't come out of its slot. The insert lever can also rise too high above its ideal placement, so it usually needs resetting which takes effort. Getting cubes free is difficult too. I don't fill the trays very high trying to make the cubes fragile enough to dislodge. IF I can get the lever to work, the cubes often splinter. Most days, however, I have to run the tray under water, top and bottom, which frees the cubes from the tray, but not the compartments. My wet fingers usually stick to the tray which is uncomfortable. I then immerse the cubes, still in the compartments, in water, return them to the tray, and try the lever again. I end up with a few thin cubes and a great deal of frustration.Date published: 2015-08-22Rated 4 out of 5 by JC123 from Great Synthetic-Free Option This product performs as expected. I have been slowly attempting to remove all plastics/synthetic materials from my kitchen over the past year. This was one of the last replacements left. It is obviously a little more challenging to remove the ice by rocking the lever back and forth before all of the ice cubes pop free. Sometimes the ice cubes crush a little or break, especially near the front where the lever attaches. However, the extra effort and less than perfect cubes are ok with me, knowing that my ice is contaminant free. I will probably buy another one of these in the future.Date published: 2015-05-20Rated 5 out of 5 by Chipmunk from Finally! No more plastics I love this ice cube tray. It's sleek, classy, and slightly retro, and it keeps plastic out of my freezer. It feels like it will last a long time, too. I plan to buy more soon.Date published: 2015-04-21Rated 1 out of 5 by Renorose from Disappointed I'm not a big fan of plastics, and was hoping this tray would replace my plastic ice cube trays. I'm even less a fan of expensive, poorly designed kitchen tools. This tray crushed a lot of the cubes and, in the end the lever failed to move back and forth freely. The little arms on the inside began to misbehave and required more foozling than I am willing to provide. It lasted nearly a summer, where the metal trays my parents had never failed. Two thumbs down.Date published: 2014-09-24Rated 5 out of 5 by Indi from What took so long! I love my Onyx stainless steel ice cube tray. I have been wanting one of these for years, as I avoid plastic at all costs. It is exactly like the one my grandmother had, except it is not aluminium. I am thrilled you are finally carrying this product, guess what everyone is getting for Christmas!Date published: 2014-03-24
