Summary

Lovely in the landscape and easy to care for, a plum tree will supply you with abundant fruit for eating fresh and for cooking. The sweet fruit of our varieties of Prunus salicina, commonly called Japanese plums, can be dried for healthy snacks, preserved in jams and jellies, baked into summertime tarts and fermented into wine.

AU Roadside: A big, flavorful plum with magenta skin and sweet, firm red flesh. Fruits in late June. Try it in plum butter, sorbet and baked treats or enjoy as a snack.

AU Rosa: In addition to being juicy and delicious, this plum variety has a deep red skin and golden yellow flesh that make it a wonderful addition to tarts and fruit salads. Fruits in early July.

Morris: Plump and succulent, with red skin and bright red flesh. Will bear bushels of ripe plums in June, giving you a great start on summer jams and chutneys.

Bruce: A favorite for canning and making jams and jellies, the Bruce plum is a large, brilliant wine-red fruit with red flesh. An early, heavy bearer. Fruits in June.

Use & Care

Care

  • Planting: Plant in full sun at same depth as container (approx. 6"–8" for 2gal. container). Space 15' apart.
  • Watering: Water the tree well as soon as you plant it, and then at least once a week for the first year after planting. A slow, root-saturating, one-hour trickle once a week is recommended for a new tree. The watering schedule should be adjusted accordingly if it rains or is very dry. Water twice weekly during dry spells.
