Rated 4 out of 5 by SchlechtenWolf from PERFECT COFFEE Every time! I put down a chuck of change for the Kitchenaid Pour Over Coffee Brewer to replace our aging Mr. Coffee machine and it doesn't disappoint. FIRST, and you might be surprised at this....go measure the space between your counter and your cabinets! You might be surprised that this coffee maker measures 15 1/16th inches tall. It fits my space but it wouldn't work on my sister's countertop. If you have limited space a Bonavita might work better for you. Still unsure? Take a gander at youtube videos of the top 6 coffee makers and how they compare to each other. I feel that making good coffee is an art and if you aren't the type to sit and read up on coffee blogs how to brew "heaven" in a cup, then the instant K cup machines might be more up your alley. First, the PRO's...you can fill up the water to 8 cups and the machine will only use the amount you need for up to 8 cups. This is a nice option if you regularly want to brew less than the 8 cups each time. It's a good idea to used filtered or spring water, the coffee just tastes better plus the directions recommend it. It's a great idea to grind your beans before each cup and the directions for this Kitchenaid recommended a finer grind than I preferred, by taste. However, depending on your grinder, I have a Capresso® Infinity Die Cast Stainless Steel Conical Burr Grinder, you may need to adjust the grind up or down based on your taste preferences. Note, I have a low entry grinder $149 retail and I am saving up for a more premium grinder. I know, you probably think $149 is not low entry but it is. The machine heats up the water before pouring over the beans for blooming. Thus, it takes a tiny bit longer for the whole heat, pour, bloom, finish process. I want to say it still takes less than 10 minutes and that's fine for me. The glass carafe works well, I don't get dripping from the machine when I pull it out to pour. The CON's, they could have made the slot for adding water bigger. Don't count on the warming plate doing much after 30 minutes. The directions actually say that the pot makes coffee and after 30 minutes you should make another pot if you want it hot and fresh. You can turn off the warming plate too after each cycle if you don't want this feature. The machine doesn't have a metal carafe option so if I want to keep extra coffee hot I add the complete pot to a thermos or metal coffee carafe. The full pot is 8 cups so a few times, I have to make two full pots to make enough to take on my road trips. The filter area takes a disposable #4 cone filter that looks too large for the maker and it and so far I haven't found a reusable basket that fits it. To sum it up, I like this Kitchen Aid despite the few things they could have done to make it really a great coffee maker.(ie...metal carafe, higher cup capacity, wider water slot) If you don't have the patience/time or you like to slap your coffee maker around because you haven't figured out that you are the reason you can't have nice things or you just want fast quick n easy operation for your cheap grounds then this one you might want to pass by.Date published: 2017-02-15Rated 3 out of 5 by js08 from Makes great tasting coffee but not reliable I purchased my first one of these 2 years ago. The coffeemaker makes an excellent tasting cup of coffee, however the electronics in it failed after only 2 months. KitchenAid customer service replaced it quickly. The next one failed within a month. Over a year my pour-over coffeemaker was replaced under warranty 4 times. The last one has now failed.. and in a dramatic way by spewing boiling water out the top. I am now looking for a different coffeemaker.Date published: 2017-01-15Rated 5 out of 5 by Waldo2 from Great Coffee Maker I don't really understand the negative reviews on this coffee pot. I am a conasure of sorts of coffee pots and I think it's great. The only thing I would change is; making it a larger 12 cup stainless thermal carafe and a cast metal base. I think with the 8 cup carafe they were going in the direction of small precision batches of coffee, it worked, it's good. I dislike these new "Techniv,,," style coffee makers. Kitchen Aide stuck with the more compact traditional design and it's great.Date published: 2016-12-01Rated 2 out of 5 by JSH47 from Poor product The carafe is poorly designed. Very difficult to poor coffee without spilling. After 18 mos, the electonics stopped working. Called customer service and they said they could not fix. They offered a $20 discount on a new model, but this was more than the initial price. As muich as the unit cost, I would expect it to last longer with better customer service.Date published: 2016-09-22Rated 3 out of 5 by eeagle from Who Designed This? Pricey, but has worked fine for a year now. Design fails: Narrow slot on top makes filling machine with water more messy than necessary; Filter basket does not fit any standard size paper cone - too small for #4, to large for #2, I cut down #4 filters to fit, I know, right?; carafe is hard to pour without spilling coffee when 6 or more cups are brewedl; Coffee gets burned when left on warmer, I now place two paper filters under carafe for perfect temp on subsequent cups. All these annoyances could easily have been rectified in any reasonable design review. Does this company even care?Date published: 2016-09-08Rated 1 out of 5 by GreggM from Not worth the money We too had a wonderful coffee maker for many years that finally needed to be replaced. 6 months ago we purchased this new KitchenAid Pour-Over coffee maker and have had nothing but problems with it since. First, the lid spills every time you pour. We've tried everything to make it stop dripping hot coffee but it's just a very bad design. The coffee gets cold very quickly as the carafe is not insulated and the burner doesn't work. The basket is too small/short so any filter size catches and folds over when you rotate the basket closed, thus resulting in watered down coffee. Finally, aside from the design flaws, it has started having trouble finishing a brewing cycle. It will begin to warm, then pour over, but now stops mid brew and switches to done. We have to hit brew a few more times to get the water to finish coming through. Vey much disappointed because when it did work properly the coffee is quite good.. Therefore gets one star for sometimes giving me yummy coffee.Date published: 2016-08-19Rated 1 out of 5 by NYCreviewer from COMPLETE BREAKDOWN AFTER 4 MONTHS COMPLETE BREAKDOWN AFTER 4 MONTHS. For many years I had reliable $80 Cuisinart coffee makers which would churn out acceptable coffee. Given the high price, I expected that this would be an upgrade from my Cuisinarts. Instead it was a complete disappointment - after only about 4 months of use, the machine had a dangerous electrical malfunction which caused boiling water to come out of the top. Also, even when it did work, the coffee heater turns off way too quickly.Date published: 2016-08-15Rated 1 out of 5 by poorqualitymaterials from Good Coffee When it Works OK, my second machine just went out. This makes 2 in one year. Something is up with the heating unit which seems to fail producing lukewarm (at best) water poured over coffee grounds thereafter. I will say the machine makes great coffee when it works but seems to have a quality control issue for the heating element which is not really surprising these days. I did give it a second try after my first machine went out but only since I respect KitchenAid appliances. I think they need to either improve the quality of materials with this machine or discontinue the model.Date published: 2016-07-20
