Chili Verde Starter
In its traditional form, chili verde is a hearty, vibrantly flavored pork stew that incorporates tart tomatillos, spicy peppers, onions and other fresh ingredients. Our Mexican-style Chili Verde Starter is as close to the real thing as you can get – and couldn't be easier to use.
- A tangy, spicy blend for making Mexican-style chili verde.
- Slow-cooked with traditional chili verde ingredients – roasted tomatillos and jalapeno peppers – plus pieces of nopale, or prickly pear cactus.
- The tart-spicy flavors are balanced by a savory blend of fresh garlic, onion, cilantro and Mexican epazote, an herb with a flavor akin to anise, used as a traditional seasoning.
- Just add pieces of browned pork or chicken and simmer to create a Mexican-style stew.
- For a mouthwatering summertime dish, use the starter as a sauce over grilled shrimp.
- It’s also delicious as a topping for burritos and enchiladas.
- 30 oz.
- Made in USA.
- A Williams Sonoma exclusive.
- Water, tomatillos (tomatillos, citric acid), cactus (cactus, water, vinegar, onions, salt, peppers, sugar, coriander, spices), jalapeño peppers (jalapeños, salt, vinegar, water), onion, modified food starch, distilled vinegar, vegetarian stock (salt, sugar, yeast extract, maltodextrin, onion powder, natural flavor [contains soybeans], dehydrated carrot juice, beta carotene color, olive oil, garlic powder, spices), cilantro, garlic, green chilies (fresh green chili peppers, water, salt, citric acid, calcium chloride), cumin, onion powder, jalapeño powder, oregano, epazote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JMOM from Excellent sauce I rarely use any sort of jarred sauce because they are always a disappointment but after reading all of the positive reviews I thought I would give this one a try and I am so glad I did. My husband and son both loved it. Normally I would "doctor" it up with some fresh ingredients but I decided to try it on its own. I browned a pork shoulder in a dutch oven, poured in the sauce and finished it in the oven. Such an easy meal with the bonus of leftovers.Date published: 2016-06-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Toadtree from Chili Verde super sauce Absolutely delicious! This easy to use sauce is tangy, spicy and just the right texture with pork stew meat. I prepared my chili verde in my slow cooker. I browned the meat first, then placed it in the slow cooker and covered it with the sauce. Cooked on high for 4-5 hours. Easy and tasty!Date published: 2016-03-18Rated 5 out of 5 by bob2424 from our favorite sauce My wife and i just love this sauce - when we use it in recipes, it reminds us of when we lived in Albuquerque!Date published: 2016-02-03Rated 4 out of 5 by starheart from Almost like homemade At a fraction of the time of homemade and for the same money, the taste was good, I tweaked it slightly. My husband does not like the slow burn. I added a can of unsweetened coconut milk and a tablespoon of thai green curry paste. Great green, fresh taste. If you want a more earthy taste, I added cumin and coriander, and a handful of cilantro. So much time saved! And no hunting for hatch green chiles!Date published: 2015-05-31Rated 5 out of 5 by jshoopes from best chili verdi Makes pork butt into the best chili verdi around. Super simple in crock pot or stove top. I just tell'em "yes" when asked if I made it. As good as any.Date published: 2014-08-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Zuckererbse from Authentic! The store manager at the San Diego UTC store is Mexican, and once told me that this sauce "is almost as good as his mom's". Well, it is utterly delicious and easy to prepare. Follow the instructions on the back of the jar for a truly authentic meal. Tip: buy a little more meat, as you'll cut away plenty of fat before sautéing the cubes. Gracias, Williams Sonoma!Date published: 2014-08-07Rated 5 out of 5 by suentherockies from Delicious and Healthy When I get down to just one of these jars left in my pantry, it's time to re-stock! So handy for spur of the moment meals. I like it best poured into some chunks of browned pork (pork shoulder, pork loin, etc.) and heated on the stove top; covering it or heating it too long makes it more watery than I like, though it still tastes good. It is also very low in calories, carbs and sodium, even if you were to eat the entire large jar yourself!!! It's great by itself or, if you're not watching carbs, its great poured over rice. I only wish it had a few more chunks of chile in it!Date published: 2014-07-25Rated 5 out of 5 by Stumpy from Was very surprised I normally am not a user of any canned sauces as I enjoy making my own, but I picked up a jar during the last sale to have on hand. I browned a pork butt, added sauce to the dutch oven and braised in the oven. At the end I added a can of white hominy-man was this good- I think if I try again I amy add some fresh cilantro or something at the end to brighten it up a bit.Date published: 2013-11-23
