Summary

Gather baskets full of plump, sweet blackberries without encountering a single thorn. Eat them fresh as a topping for pancakes, yogurt or ice cream, or turn them into delicious jams, pies and cobblers. The berries are rich in antioxidants and vitamins C and A.

Apache: Produces bigger berries, and more of them, than other thornless varieties. Fruits in late June to July.

Arapaho: The earliest ripening of the thornless blackberries, Arapaho bears large, firm berries with especially small seeds. Fruits in late May to early June.

Triple Crown:
This blackberry plant offers great flavor, high yield and exceptional vigor. Its thornless, semitrailing vines are laden with large, firm berries in August, just when other varieties are slowing down.

  • Apache: Zones 4–8; Arapaho and Triple Crown: Zones 5–9
  • Grows 3'–6' high and 3'–5' wide.
  • Suitable for container or ground planting.
  • Requires full sun.
  • Yields approx. 1 lb. of fruit at maturity (1 1/2 to 2 years).
  • Grown in California.
  • Agricultural regulations prohibit shipment to AZ, CA, OR, WA, Puerto Rico and Hawaii.

Use & Care

Care

  • Planting: Plant in full sun at same depth as container (approx. 6"–8" for 2gal. container). Space 4'–6' apart.
  • Watering: Water plant well as soon as you plant it, and then at least once a week for the first year after planting. A slow, root-saturating, one-hour trickle once a week is recommended for a new plant. The watering schedule should be adjusted accordingly if it rains or is very dry. Water twice weekly during dry spells.
