In French households, crocks known as beurriers have been used to store butter since the Middle Ages. Like its predecessors, our cheerful glazed ceramic crock can keep butter fresh and spreadable for weeks – without refrigeration. Using the butter pot is easy: Remove the bell-shaped lid, pack it with one cup (two 4-oz. sticks) of softened butter, fill the base with cold water, then replace the lid. Kept replenished, the water creates an airtight seal that prevents oxidation, maintaining the butter's freshness and softness. The butter pot is made in France by Emile Henry, famous for ceramic kitchenware since 1851. Dishwasher safe. 4 1/2" diam.; 3" high.
